What E2 means

U-Line ice machines including the UONB115, UHNP315 and UCLR1215 display E2 when Thermistor 2 reads open. The control has lost the signal from its second temperature sensor and cannot judge that part of the ice-making cycle. The display shows E2, and ice output drops until the sensor circuit is corrected. The matching shorted reading for this sensor is E6, and the display tells us which condition the control found.

Common causes of E2

  • Thermistor 2 has gone open
  • A broken lead or a loose connector on the sensor
  • The control input is not reading the sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the machine off for one minute and restart it. 2. Clear dust and objects from around the cabinet. 3. Confirm the bin door is shut tight. 4. Do not remove covers. 5. If E2 is back after a restart, book a visit with us.

! Why to stop there
  • The open circuit is behind panels and cannot be seen from outside
  • We test the sensor path and the board before any part is ordered
  • A written price comes first, backed by a 30-day workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E2E2 questions
What does E2 mean?

E2 means Thermistor 2 is open. The control sees no signal from its second temperature sensor, so that part of the cycle runs without its reading.

Does E2 mean my machine is leaking?

No. E2 concerns a temperature sensor circuit, not water. If you see water on the floor, that is a separate problem, and we can look at both during one visit.

How is E2 related to E6?

E6 reports Thermistor 2 shorted. E2 and E6 are the open and shorted conditions of the same sensor, so a technician tests that one circuit for either code.

Still seeing E2?

A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
