The freezers in the U-Line line include narrow undercounter units and drawer-style models that tuck beneath a counter. Some are built into a kitchen island, while others serve a garage, a pantry or an outdoor-adjacent room, where air is far less friendly than in a conditioned kitchen.

Houston heat is the main stress. A freezer in a hot garage runs longer and works harder to shed heat, and humid summer air passing through a worn gasket turns to frost fast. Power flickers during storms can also leave the control confused or the defrost cycle stuck.

We begin by confirming the freezer is getting steady power and good airflow. Then we check the gasket, the defrost parts, the fan and the temperature sensor, look inside for ice that is blocking air, and tell you what we found before any repair starts.

05Freezer questions
How soon should I move my food if the freezer stops?

Keep the door shut and move items to another freezer or a cooler with ice as soon as you can. A closed unit holds cold for a while, but opening it speeds the thaw.

Why is there so much frost inside?

Most often warm, humid air is getting in through a worn gasket or a door left ajar. A blocked drain or a defrost part that no longer works can also cause it.

Should I refreeze food that thawed?

If it still has ice crystals or is cold to the touch, it is usually fine to refreeze. When in doubt, throw it out and let us fix the unit first.
