U-Line 1000 Series beverage centers such as the 1215BEV and 2000 Series models such as the 2224DWR display E5 when Thermistor 1 reads shorted. A shorted sensor passes far too much signal, so the control gets a reading that cannot be correct. The cabinet shows E5 while the control works around the bad value. The matching open reading for this same sensor is E1, so the two codes tell a technician which way the circuit failed.
1. Switch the unit off, wait a minute and restart it. 2. Check that nothing wet or spilled sits at the rear of the cabinet. 3. Compare the display with a thermometer. 4. Do not open panels. 5. If E5 returns, call us.
Thermistor 1 is shorted under E5. That is the opposite condition of E1, which reports the same sensor open. Because the reading is shorted rather than missing, the control receives a value it cannot use.
That description belongs to an older model family. On the 1000 and 2000 Series, E5 is Thermistor 1 shorted. The older E5 wording does not apply to your cabinet, so we follow the table for your series.
A bad temperature reading can push the cooling off the setpoint. If you notice frost or very cold bottles, turn the unit off and call us.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
