Nugget ice should be chewable, not watery. If yours comes out slushy or turns to a block, these are the causes we check first.
Nugget ice is popular for a reason: it is soft, chewable, and holds flavor. But it is meant to be compact, not soupy. If your U-Line nugget ice machine starts producing slush, wet pieces, or a bin that freezes into a single lump, something in the process has drifted.
Nugget ice is formed as water freezes on a cold surface, then scraped, compressed, and pushed out. Excess water clinging to the ice is squeezed away on the way. When too much water stays in the ice, it feels wet and refreezes in the bin.
If the ice stays slushy after a cleaning, or you hear grinding as it forms, the freezing section or its drive may be worn. Running it that way can strain the motor, so we recommend turning it off until we see it.
