Water on the Floor Under Your U-Line Ice Maker: Where It Comes From

A wet spot at the front of an undercounter ice maker has only a few likely sources. Learn how to tell supply, drain and melt apart.

Finding water at the toe kick or on the floor in front of your U-Line ice maker is stressful, especially over wood or tile. The good news is that the source is usually one of three things, and a little observation narrows it down fast.

The three usual sources

  • Supply line: water that appears even when the unit is idle, often dripping near the back or a valve.
  • Drain line: water that shows up after a melt or cleaning cycle, usually with a damp hose or loose connection.
  • Melt from the bin: water that follows a door left open, a power interruption, or a warm room.

How to narrow it down

  1. Dry the area completely with a towel, then lay a dry paper towel on the floor under the unit.
  2. Check the towel after an hour, then again after a few hours. Steady wetness points to the supply side.
  3. Wipe the door gasket and look for a gap or a curled edge that lets warm humid air in. In Houston summers that moisture condenses and drips.
  4. Look inside for ice stuck around the drain opening.

What to do right away

If you suspect the supply line, close the small shutoff valve on the water line if you can reach it. If you cannot find it, switch off the ice maker and call us before the wet spot spreads under cabinets, where swollen particleboard and mold can start in a day or two.

A loose compression fitting, a cracked fill tube, a worn valve, and a failing drain pump can all cause this same puddle, but each repair is different. We trace the water to its true source instead of replacing parts by trial.

Our team handles ice maker repair throughout Greater Houston; check the service area for your neighborhood. Arrival windows are three hours, you receive a written price before any work, and the repair is covered by a 30-day workmanship warranty.
