U-Line BI98 Undercounter Icemaker Repair

Under the counter in a bar or kitchen, the BI98 makes crescent ice in a harvest cycle using mechanical controls. Nothing on its face reports a problem, so the machine tells you only by what it does: less ice, wet ice, or none.
The evaporator plate is the first place to look. Scale stops the cubes from releasing cleanly, and the harvest cycle stalls or drops partial cubes. A water valve that seeps overfills the mold and sends the cubes out stuck together.
Compressor start parts are the third check, because they weaken with decades of starts and leave a machine that hums without freezing. We test them with a meter. The price is written before any work, and warranty on our repair is 30 days.
We test the parts directly: valve, motor, relay and thermostat. Without a display, a meter and the cycle timing tell us more than any code, and we write down what each reading shows.
The water valve leaks and overfills the mold, so the cubes freeze into a mass. We test the valve for a full shut-off and replace it if it passes water between cycles.
The start relay or capacitor on the compressor is weak. We test both with a meter and replace the one that fails, then confirm the compressor starts and the evaporator freezes.
