What E5 means

On U-Line Origins 1000 refrigerators, such as the 1115R, the 1175R and the 1175WC, E5 means the actual cabinet temperature sat 10 degrees above the set point for more than 6 hours. The display shows E5 when the cabinet cannot catch up. On Echelon 2000 the same code uses a 12-hour window. The unit keeps running, but the cabinet stays too warm for food storage, so check temperatures promptly.

Common causes of E5

  • A cabinet recently loaded or just plugged in
  • A dirty condenser or blocked airflow
  • Door gaskets that leak warm air
  • A refrigeration system that is not cooling
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check that the door is closed and sealing. 2. Look at the set point on the display. 3. Clear space around the cabinet and vacuum the grille with the unit unplugged. 4. Hold off on loading warm items. 5. If E5 stays after a day, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A six-hour warm cabinet needs a cooling test
  • Repeated resets hide the cause
  • Food is at risk until the cabinet cools
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E5E5 questions
How warm is 10 degrees over?

E5 shows when the cabinet stays 10 degrees above the set point for more than 6 hours. At a 38 F set point that is 48 F, well above safe food temperatures. Wait a full day after a new plug-in before judging.

Can a full load trigger E5?

A big warm load slows cooling and can raise E5. Give it time, and if the code stays after a day, the cooling itself needs a check.

What does the visit cover?
