What E1 means

E1 on a U-Line 1000 Series or 2000 Series wine cooler tells you Thermistor 1 has an open circuit. The first temperature sensor is not completing its circuit, so the control cannot read that zone. You see E1 on the display. This is a temperature-sensing reading, and it is separate from a door code. The shorted version of the same sensor is E5.

Common causes of E1

  • Thermistor 1 has opened
  • The sensor lead is broken or pulled loose
  • The sensor connector is corroded or loose
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Unplug the cooler for one minute, then plug it in again. 2. Read the cabinet temperature on a separate thermometer. 3. Look for spills near the back of the cabinet. 4. Do not remove any panel. 5. Call us if E1 returns.

! Why to stop there
  • Sensor circuits are tested with instruments, not by eye
  • We separate the sensor from the wiring before we replace anything
  • You get a written price first, and the repair carries a 30-day warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E1E1 questions
Which sensor is E1 pointing at?

The first temperature sensor does not complete its circuit, which makes Thermistor 1 open, and the control cannot read that zone.

Does E5 relate to E1?

They involve the same sensor. E1 is the open reading, and E5 reports Thermistor 1 shorted. The code tells us which kind of circuit problem the control sees.

Can I keep using the cooler with E1?

Watch the temperature with a thermometer. If it holds steady you have time to book. If bottles warm, move them and call us.
