On U-Line ice machines such as the UONB115, UHNP315 and UCLR1215, E5 reports Thermistor 1 shorted. The first temperature sensor is delivering a signal the control reads as a direct short, so the value cannot be real. E5 appears on the display and ice production drops until the circuit is repaired. The matching open reading for this sensor is E1, and the display tells us which condition the control found.
1. Switch off the machine, wait one minute and turn it on again. 2. Check for water pooling near the cabinet. 3. Make sure the bin door is shut. 4. Do not open panels. 5. Call us if E5 returns.
On E5 the first sensor is shorted, and the control reads the first sensor as a direct connection and cannot use the value for the ice cycle. A technician tests the circuit to find the short.
E1 is the same sensor reading open. E5 is the shorted reading, so the circuit failed in the opposite way, though both lead to the same sensor check.
Dampness at a sensor connector produces a shorted reading, which is one reason we check the connector and the wire before replacing the sensor itself.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
