A gurgle, a hum with no water moving, or a puddle in the cabinet usually points to the drain system. Here is what to check and when to stop.
Many U-Line ice makers move melt water and cleaning rinse out of the cabinet with a small drain pump. When that system struggles, you hear it before you see it. A gurgling or humming sound that goes on for a long time, or a shallow puddle of water inside the cabinet, is the usual first sign.
Do not pour harsh drain cleaners into the ice maker. They can damage plastic parts and leave a taste in the ice. Do not run the unit for days with water standing inside, because that is where odors and slime start.
If the pump keeps running, water backs up after a cleaning cycle, or you see wetness on the floor of the cabinet, switch the unit off at the control and let us look. A worn pump, a stuck float switch, and a clogged line each need a different fix, and guessing can push water toward your cabinetry.
