What E2 means

U-Line Echelon 2000 refrigerators with the 2010 electronic control, including the 2175RF and the 2175DWRR, show E2 when thermistor 1 is shorted. The control reads the main temperature sensor as a direct short instead of a normal, changing resistance, so it cannot trust the cabinet temperature. E2 appears on the display where the set point normally sits. This code is not available on the CLR2160.

Common causes of E2

  • A thermistor 1 that has shorted internally
  • Pinched or damaged sensor wiring
  • Moisture at the sensor plug
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Note the code and the time it appeared. 2. Unplug the refrigerator for one minute and restore power. 3. Check that the door closes fully and that food is not blocking the airflow. 4. If E2 comes back, check the food temperature and call us. Leave all panels closed.

! Why to stop there
  • Telling a short from a drifting sensor takes a meter reading
  • The wiring runs behind liner panels
  • A wrong guess leaves the control reading bad temperatures
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E2E2 questions
What is the difference between E1 and E2?

E1 is an open thermistor 1 and E2 is a shorted thermistor 1. Both are circuit problems on the same sensor, but they point to different failures in the sensor or its wiring.

Is the food safe with E2 showing?

The control cannot read cabinet temperature correctly, so check with a separate thermometer. If it reads above 41 F, move perishables to another cooler until we repair the sensor.

Can a loose plug cause E2?

A short comes from the sensor or pinched wiring rather than a loose plug, which tends to read open. We test the circuit with a meter to see which one you have.
