On U-Line 1000 Series beverage centers like the 1215BEV and 2000 Series models like the 2224DWR, E4 reports Thermistor 4 open. The control is getting no reading from its fourth temperature sensor, so the circuit is broken somewhere between the sensor and the board. E4 stays on the display until the reading returns. E8 is the shorted version, and the display shows whichever condition the control finds.
1. Turn off the power for one minute and switch it back on. 2. Make sure bottles are not pressed against the back wall. 3. Check the cabinet temperature with a thermometer. 4. Leave covers and wires untouched. 5. If E4 returns, call us.
E4 is a sensor-circuit code rather than a shutdown. The unit normally keeps cooling, but one temperature reading is missing, so the control is less accurate.
E8 is the counterpart, reporting Thermistor 4 as shorted. E4 means the circuit is open, while E8 means it reads as a direct connection. Seeing the pair tells a technician which way the circuit failed.
It appears on models that carry a fourth sensor in their error table, such as the 1000 and 2000 Series. Units with fewer sensors do not use every code.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
